Roster Evaluation: Sebastian Telfair

First of all, I have nothing against Sebastian Telfair. I really do like the kid and hope he lives up to the hype. If he can pull it off, he’ll be one helluva player. Right now, however, he can’t shoot, commits turnovers in bunches, and does absolutely nothing to stop his man from getting to the basket. What Bassy does have going for him is the fact that he already has a killer instinct and AMAZING court vision to go along with his speed and quickness. Defense and shooting can be learned, while what he’s got you either are born with it or you’re not. The kid has upside, no doubt. It’s just a matter of whether he has the ability to put it all together. He’s still young, so he has plenty of time. The Blazers also need to be aware of the fact that he eventually wants to end up in NY, so we need to have a backup plan if he walks in a couple of years. With Sebastian, the jury’s still out.
