Hot New Rumor
Following the Jalen Rose trade today, this rumor has been popping up everywhere...
Portland trades Theo Ratliff and Ruben Patterson to New York for Penny Hardaway and David Lee
This trade works for both teams. We get a HUGE expiring contract in Penny (who can also serve as a great mentor to our young guards-as hard as it is to believe he was actually a top-notch player back in his day) plus a young back-up four with decent potential who is adept at crashing the boards and has enough offense to prevent him from becoming a liability while he's on the floor. They get a center they now so desperately need and Ruben, so it's all good.
However, a common misconception needs to be cleared up. If we acquire an expiring contract, we still will not be under the cap enough (only 2 million under) to re-sign Joel Pryzbilla to anything more than the mid-level exception due to the fact that DA's contract is still on the books through next year. However, if he does indeed sign for the mid-level like he's stated before, we will be significantly under the cap in the 2007 offseason (roughly 10-11 million), which has been purported to be the best ever.
Sounds good to me.
