Trade Idea

Darius Miles, Juan Dixon, Brian Skinner and several future picks (some of those new 2nd rounders?) to Orlando for Grant Hill. This trade gives us veteran leadership and 14 million in cap relief while sending Darius packing and helping to clear the bigman logjam.

The roster would look like this:

PG- Jack/Blake/Rodriguez/Dickau
SG- Roy
SF- Webster/Outlaw/Hill
PF- Randolph/Aldridge
C- Pryz (?)/LaFrentz/Ha

Webster could start at SF but play a significant chunk of his minutes at SG when Roy needs a rest, with Outlaw recieving more minutes at SF than he has in the past.

Nate McMillian has already named Brandon Roy the starting PG for the first game of the season so Martel now can start at the 2

Nate named Roy the starting PG of the summer league... not the normal season.

But yeah, getting the veteran leadership of Hill and his expiring contract is nice. Plus, if he can play, it's all gravy.

BUT, I think people place too much importance on being under the cap. Even if we can offer quite a bit, Portland isn't that attractive of a place for a highpowered free agent to come to, you always end up overpaying, and we got all the young guys we wanna keep who will ne to be resigned.

Of course, being under the cap helps for that too...

Basically, I think the draft, smart trades and smart contracts is the way to go. As long as our goal is to be under the cap to be able to afford some free agent role players and better afford to resign our youngsters, then I'm all for it.

I just don't think we'd be able to sign a big name free agent in the next few years. Not till we're a contender... and with our core, I really think we will be.

After the great draft, how do you feel about Pritchard becoming GM? Like I said before, I like him, and I'm very impressed with his creative wheeling and dealing.

I would jump on this trade. However, I don't think Orlando would do this. Much like us, they want to keep their young impressionable talent away from Darius Miles. IMO the only possibility to trade Darius is to a veteran team like the Spurs, Kings, or Mavericks.
